The Purpose of Infographic's?

Hello readers, welcome back to another blog post!

Information, data and different statistics surround us and are a critical part of how we navigate this world. Over time individuals have learned to block out these stimuli and the fact we are constantly analyzing information, processing its importance of how it'll impact our daily life/choices that we must make throughout our day. The ongoing attack of information additionally goes hand in hand with the pace in which life has increased to a faster rate. It seems anything that is to the point, quick and informative is always the best option over something that wastes time, is confusing and creates the need for additional thinking.
Infographics are a very popular method as of late to share ideas, create awareness and get to the facts through the method of visual literacy. Infographics typically in a poster or easy to share online photo, use graphs, numbers, images, and summarized points to get their point across to the reader is a quick, efficient method. With the help numbers, graphs and images infographics help hurdle the barrier of reading literacy making infographics a more inclusive method to share information.

I believe Infographics are a very powerful tool to use within your classroom either posted on a wall or shared as a handout during a lesson. Giving students a resource to summarize a topic in an interactive quick way that visually engages the student can be powerful. Infographics can be used across many subjects and for many different purposes. They can be used to promote, summarize, review, and or reflect on a topic as its a great method for students that struggle to get their thoughts into words to demonstrate their knowledge. Two examples of infographics I would like to share could be used in an ELA and PE classroom.

ELA Infographic Example

This Infographic above is a great example of the potential they have in the subject of ELA. This poster would work great within the classroom on the wall as a reference for students to check out, but I would rather use this graphic as a hand out for students to have has a cheat sheet to refer to during class. This infographic is very visually appealing and well organized allowing the reader to easily find what they are looking for. Furthermore, the infographic below is a great representation of a graphic that would be perfect to place in the classroom or school on the wall to help educate readers on suggested physical activity requirements.

Health/PE Infographic Example

Same as the other infographic example above this health infographic is very visually engaging/appealing. This Infographic is more of a poster to be placed on a wall as it is designed to inform the reader on a topic rather than giving examples and rules to be viewed as a reference. Having this graphic around could be a great opportunity for the reader to reflect on their own personal amount of physical activity while learning new methods to increase their play.

After searching the web for examples I thought I'd create my own and try it out. I used the web-based application Venngage. This application is designed to help individuals create posters, infographics and other designs in an easy to use user-friendly platform. Another suggested application you could try out to create your own infographic is Piktochart. I chose to create my own infographic on tips to stay organized in school. I found the process of creating this graphic fairly easy and sure with some more practice and experience it would be a great tool to make more detailed infographics.

My Own Created Infographic

Overall, Infographics are a great tool that can be used to help inform your audience in a quick, organized and efficient way to effectively get your point across. These graphics can be done in many different ways, and cover a variety of topics/uses. Thanks again for your time, I hope you were able to take something away from this post about infographics. If you have any questions, comments, or feedback feel free to share in the comments.

  1. I like how your two infographic examples each had their own purpose. They could both be used as posters, or as individual reference sheets, but I agree that one naturally lends itself better to one or the other. I also appreciate the infographic you made... I think I need a copy of that for myself! It can be easy to forget those important things... like sleep.... :)
