Kialo In The Classroom
Hello and welcome back to another blog post!
I am going to write about and share a quick summary & review of the online-based application Kialo. The class "Internet for educators" that I am apart of conducted another synchronous online class this week to discuss online education and its place within the classroom.
Kialo is an application that is easy to use and built to engage thoughtful discussion, understand different points of view, and help with collaborative decision-making. You are able to take on any topic big or small in a group to discuss, debate and collaborate to share insight and thought.
Our class took advantage of this application by synchronously online weighing our thoughts for the pros and cons of the prompted question. "Technology in the Classroom what are the costs and benefits?"

Kialo displays a great visual for users to share and see other individual's thoughts and ideas. The screenshot above demonstrates our classes use during our class. Not all answers are accepted however as they must be approved by an admin. This is a great tool to keep the group and content on task. Once done Kialo offers different methods to interactively display the created information from the group.

Our Pro & Con chart was easily created into an interactive pie chart (above) that showed how evenly distributed the pros (Teal) and cons (Red) were. When you move your cursor over each section will display what point was documented. This is an awesome tool for students to be able to see all the points created in one easy to navigate interactive map. As a class, we used Kialo alongside Zoom to communicate via video and audio for our online class. I would defiantly recommend the use of Kialo as a companion application to make online education even that more interactive and assessable.
Thanks again for your time, I hope you were able to take something away from this post about Kialo and its use within the classroom. If you have any questions, comments, or feedback feel free to share in the comments.

Hard to keep up with you BK! I love the idea of listing a Pro or Con, and having a little "side-bar" conversation develop from it
ReplyDeleteWell summarized. I like this idea for highschool students and possibly middle years. I personally like the graphing that Kialo displays and the amount of information that takes teaching and brainstorming to a higher level than simply as a Smartboard display. Kialo is informative and data gathering and helps to clarify the brainstorming process.
